BIRDING – 829 species will thrill you with their colour, variety and song. The haunting cry of the fish eagle, the raucous calls of the hadidas and the chorus waking you in the morning will tell you pure and simply that you’re in Africa.

CLIMATE – enjoy the Highveld’s warm temperatures and summer rains, Magoebaskloof’s mountain mists and lush vegetation, the bushveld’s dry winters (ideal for game viewing ), the Cape’s Mediterranean climate and KwaZulu-Natal’s hot, humid summers and mild winters.

CULTURE –you’ll find South Africa hard to beat for a variety of cultures. The fact that we have 11 official languages might give you a clue! The nature-savvy San and Khoi who originally occupied the land, the Zulu warrior nation, the colourful Ndebele, the European mix and more offer a dazzling display of self-expression.

FLORA – We’ve been blessed in this department. For example, the Cape Peninsula alone has 2 285 species of fynbos on an area a third of the size of greater London. It has three times more plant species per square kilometre than the rainforests and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

FOOD  – be prepared to find everything from beef and Karoo lamb to warthog and crocodile on the menu. With over 3000 kilometres of coast line, there’s also plenty of fish to choose from and an abundance of fruit and veggies. Our fine dining has a touch of European, African and Indonesian influences and we boast the second oldest wine industry in the world.

HISTORY – explore our origins from millions of years ago at the Cradle of Humankind. Leap forward to the 17th century when the Dutch settlers built their fort in modern day Cape Town to create a refreshment post for the Dutch East India Company’s ships travelling to India and Indonesia. Then spend some time in the Apartheid Museum for a better understanding of South Africa’s struggle towards democracy.

PEOPLE – South Africans are a warm and hospitable bunch with a wonderful sense of humour. We will make you feel at home in no time at all.

SCENERY – the variety of landscapes in our country is mind-boggling. The wide open veld of the Free State, the Karoo’s  dry landscapes dotted with rocky outcrops, KwaZulu-Natal’s green hills, white beaches and spectacular Drakensberg mountain range, the Highveld, the Lowveld, the Bushveld, the Cape winelands – you name it, we have it.

SHOPPING – indulge! With the weak rand, ladies can go calling on their best friend – diamonds. Of course, there’s the gold, the deep blue tanzanite and everything else, even elephant hair, in jewellery. Exotic ostrich feathers, leather and egg items make wonderful gifts. Choose fashion items from our internationally acclaimed designers or from local ladies who create magic with traditional fabric like shweshe.
