Pilanesberg National Park
Set in a crater of a long extinct volcano, the Park covers an area of 572 square km (220 sq miles or 50 000 ha). Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, wooded valleys and thickets and wide open grasslands.
Pilanesberg Game Reserve is situated in the North West Province of South Africa and borders the well-known Sun City Resort and Casino. It ranks as one of the largests parks in South Africa and features the “Big Five” (the five most dangerous animals in Africa). A big benefit is that it lies in a malaria-free area.
Only two hours drive from Johannesburg, it is the perfect game park destination for the tourist with limited time but who still wants to fit in game viewing. Virtually every mammal of Southern Africa can be seen, and visitors can explore nearly 200 km (125 miles) on self drives or, preferably, be driven by us in a comfortable air conditioned minibus! There are over 6000 animals and more than 360 species of birdlife in the Park. A number of safe “hides” and picnic spots enable visitors an “out of car” viewing experience!
